PROTECT YOUR COMPUTER
by Chapter Webmaster Ronn Knowles

Purchase a backup hard drive and make sure your files are backed up automatically.  You can purchase these drives for $50 to $80 and they come with backup software.  If your computer crashes, at least your files will be safe.

More and more virus programs appear daily to infect your computer.  Most of the virus programs infect your computer when you go to a website that you find in an email.  Unless you are sure the email link is safe do NOT open the website.  This is the most common way to get a virus.

If you get a pop-up window stating your computer is infected, immediately shut down your computer.  This is usually the Security Tool virus that shows a window with files infected.  Do NOT close the pop-up or click ignore.  If you do, the virus will download on your computer.  These virus programs will eventually shut down all of your execute programs, and you may be spending $50 to $100 to have it fixed.  If you have to format your hard drive, you will lose ALL of your programs and files.

Below are four FREE anti-virus programs that I use:

 1.  Microsoft Security: http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

 2.  Virus Program:  http://www.malwarebytes.org/

 3.  Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.6.2     http://download.cnet.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?tag=mncol;pm

4.  Avast:  http://www.avast.com/index

CNET website:  http://www.cnet.com/  This site has information and downloads that are very helpful.  CAUTION:  Be sure the program you are downloading is FREE.
